About MiEDA
The Michigan Eating Disorders Alliance (MiEDA) was established in 2011 by Gail Hall and Jennifer Lane to reduce the impact of eating disorders within our community through education and prevention initiatives directed towards young people, parents, educators and healthcare professionals.

For more than 13 years, we've provided education presentations at schools, been instrumental in the creation of an educational version of the documentary The Student Body, and have actively participating in community awareness events across the state.

Beginning in 2023, we shifted our focus to training and presentations for professionals in the state. The increased incidence of eating disorders since the pandemic has exposed the need for more training in the medical and mental health community. We hope to increase knowledge within the professional community to increase rates of early detection and prevention.
"Through education and training, we can and will reduce the suffering of eating disorders in our community."
Executive Director
Gail Hall, LMSW, DCSW, CEDS-C
Gail Hall, LMSW, DCSW, CEDS-C has been specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 1990 in various settings. She states:
"It’s been a blessing to support girls, boys, women, and men as they heal from their eating disorder and begin to grasp all God has in store for them in the future. As exciting as that journey can be, however, it’s often long and difficult. How much better if we could prevent an eating disorder before it ever got started".
Gail attended her first eating disorders prevention conference in 1986 in Seattle Washington at the national headquarters of EDAP. MiEDA was founded so that funds raised locally could be used for prevention efforts right here in Western Michigan. Primary prevention involves impacting the societal forces which often trigger eating disorders in an attempt to prevent the problem before it begins.
Although retired from clinical practice, Gail remains passionate about advocacy, education, and prevention efforts for eating disorders. As a group, while we remain interested in primary prevention, we are also interested in secondary prevention, which involves early recognition and appropriate treatment. Our Board's new focus is on providing training for medical and mental health professionals.
